As my job search has dragged on, and on, and on, my resume has gradually morphed. I’ve added new skills and changed the formatting, hoping one of my changes would make me worthy of hiring, or even just worthy of an interview. The aspect of my resume that has changed most, however, is my profile. I’ve had to broaden it as I’ve applied for more and more jobs.
Version 1: A discerning editor with a knack for producing clean copy on tight deadlines.
Version 2: A discerning editor and writer with a knack for producing clean copy on tight deadlines.
Version 3: A discerning editor, writer, and designer hoping to improve understanding through communications.
Version 4: An editor, writer, designer, and communications specialist with broad publications experience.
Version 5: An editor, writer, designer, communications specialist, chef, maid, domestic accountant, volunteer, and pet sitter with many abilities.
Version 6: A human seeking a job.
Version 7: A vertebrate mammal.
I’m still working on Version 8, which I will start sending out next week. I’m thinking I need to emphasize my opposable thumbs.
