Inheritance

Greg has been writing a will for us. No, we don’t plan to die anytime soon, but you never know. We might fry after our air-conditioner dies on a 105-degree August day, or Greg might poison himself by eating 3-week-old leftovers. I was reading what Greg had written, and he was trying to explain things to me.

“I would be able to leave $2 million to Eleanor, tax free!” Greg said.

“Well, I’m very excited,” I said. “I didn’t know we even had $2 million.”

“I thought you were working on that part,” Greg said.

Of course. With my part-time career as a journalist, I’m sure we’re well on our way to $2 million.

Belly laugh

You may not appreciate it as much as we do, but this is a great laugh. It really is. Click to listen.

Girls just want to have fun.

Mind reader

Eleanor loves crumpling the paper in the bin we use for recycling. This morning she had pulled out every newspaper from the past week and was making her way through our junk mail. I opened up a big packet of coupons, knowing she would like all the little slips of paper and the colorful ads. As she sat encircled by paper, she picked out one coupon and held it up toward me. Her face was so earnest, as if she were handing me a great treasure.

I took it. A coupon for maid service.

How brilliant is this child? Greg should put her in charge of the Mother’s Day gift.
